Ultra-Conservative Ex- Lawmaker J.A. Kast Chosen as Chile Incoming President.
After a definitive second-round vote, hardline politician José Antonio Kast has clinched the top job in Chile.
A Resounding Triumph
With more than 99% of polling stations reporting, Kast garnered 58.17% of the ballots, overcoming leftist candidate Jeannette Jara, who earned 41.83%.
This represents Kast's third presidency, having in the past been beaten by the current president, Gabriel Boric, in the 2021 final vote.
Campaign Centered On Security and Migration
Known for his staunch socially conservative views and regard for the era of former leader Augusto Pinochet, Kast's platform was mostly built on promises to combat rising violence and radically curb immigration.
He repeatedly blamed migrants, notably the roughly 330,000 unauthorized individuals in Chile, for crime rates. Throughout the election cycle, he issued an stern warning for them to exit before the new term begins or face deportation.
