The Pharaohs Bench Salah as Angola Face Afcon Exit.
The Angolan winger delivered a superb set-piece against the woodwork as Angola and Egypt shared a stalemate.
Liverpool star Mohamed Salah and Manchester City counterpart Omar Marmoush remained unused substitutes as Group B winners Egypt were held to a draw with Angola at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The record winners, having already secured top spot, fielded an completely rotated starting XI and were missing a clinical finish in Agadir.
Angola, who required a victory to keep their hopes alive, will now face a nervous wait to see if their two points is enough to qualify for the last 16 as one of the highest-ranked third-place teams.
Several other nations are already guaranteed at least third place in their respective groups, all having three points.
Game Highlights
Attacker Fredy struck the outside of a post for Angola early in the second half, while Zizo – one of three halftime changes by the Pharaohs – stung goalkeeper Hugo Marques' fingertips with a shot from inside the box.
Salah and Marmoush had previously found the net in victories over Zimbabwe and South Africa, in turn.
Egypt will remain in Agadir to meet a runner-up from another group next Monday, with their opponents to be determined after the group stage finishes on Wednesday.
In the other Group B finale, South Africa's 3-2 win over Zimbabwe propelled Bafana Bafana into the next round, putting Angola in a precarious position.
Pharaohs Miss Salah and Marmoush Absence
The Liverpool star observed Egypt draw a blank in an Afcon match for the first time since the 2021 tournament decider.
With top spot secured, Egypt coach Hossam Hassan might have hoped for a more impressive attacking performance from his second string.
Mostafa Mohamed, who scored four goals at the 2023 finals, created an early chance for Hossam Abdelmaguid, but the defender looped his header wide of the target.
Angola, having made multiple rotations themselves, nearly went ahead when Chico Banza linked up with Mabululu before firing a shot past the post.
The first half passed without a shot on target, though Fredy forced goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir into action with a powerful long-range strike.
The Angolan captain remained the most dangerous threat, watching a set-piece beat the goalkeeper but crash against the crossbar.
At the other end, Salah Mohsen was stunned after almost prodding in a cross, only for the goal to be ruled offside.
Late attempts from M'Bala Nzola and Hamdi Fathy failed to break the deadlock, leaving the match ended goalless.
For Angola, quarter-finalists in 2023, their inconsistent showings in Morocco will raise questions about their mid-tournament coaching decision.
