Sweden Team Reveal: Isak Included While Gyokeres Excluded

Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres was left out from the new manager's initial Swedish national team selection, whereas Liverpool striker Alexander Isak has earned a place

The Arsenal forward is due for further assessments this week amid concerns he suffered a thigh issue in the Gunners's English top flight triumph at the Clarets last weekend

Gyokeres was absent from the Gunners' European success versus Slavia Prague earlier this week

Isak Returns

Isak, absent from action from 22 October owing to a groin injury, has been chosen for World Cup qualifying fixtures against the Swiss team (15 November) plus the Slovenian side (November 18th)

Other Premier League Inclusions

  • Newcastle wide player Anthony Elanga

Both athletes were included in Potter's Premier League players chosen under ex- Brighton, Chelsea and West Ham boss Graham Potter

Potter's Role

Potter was appointed the Swedish federation initially temporarily in late October, less than a month following he was dismissed from West Ham

Previous boss Jon Dahl Tomasson was sacked after Sweden's defeat against the Kosovan team on 13 October, an outcome which rendered automatic qualification from Group B out of reach

Present Position

The Swedish team find themselves bottom in Group B having just one point in their opening four games

Even if they fail to secure second place, they could still take part in the World Cup play-offs because thanks to their showing during the previous Nations League
