‘Oh How We Will Miss This Man’: Meg Ryan Publishes Emotional Tribute to Rob Reiner

The actress Meg Ryan has shared a moving homage to the departed director Rob Reiner, under whose direction she worked in the hit rom-com When Harry Met Sally.

A Devastating Incident

Reiner was found dead with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their home in Los Angeles at the weekend.

“How we will long for this man…” Ryan shared on Instagram, next to an image of them together. “Our gratitude, Rob and Michele, for your faith in true love, stories, and joy. Thank you for your faith in the best in people, and for your profound love of our country.”

Court Case Developments

Reiner’s son Nick, 32, is accused of two counts of first-degree murder and appeared in court today. He’s being detained without the option of bail. Sources state that Reiner’s daughter Romy was the one who located her father.

“It is my belief that from this horror, positive change and understanding can emerge,” Ryan went on to write. “While uncertain, I suspect they'd wish for a hopeful, compassionate outcome that fosters mutual understanding and peace.”

Children Share Their Grief

Reiner’s surviving children Jake and Romy issued words today. “No words can convey the constant, profound sorrow we feel,” they said. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. Beyond being our mom and dad, they were our dearest friends.”

Colleagues and Friends Remember

Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, joined in remembering Reiner via comments shared yesterday along with names including Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.

“His comedic touch was beyond compare, his love of getting the music of the dialogue just right, and his sharpening of the edge of a drama was simply elegant,” the tribute noted. “He cherished performers and improved scribes. Freedom was his key offering. He listened to ideas and included you in the creative journey. They always felt they were working as a team. To be in his hands as a film-maker was a privilege but that is only part of his legacy.”

An Enduring Filmography

When Harry Met Sally was a critical and commercial success in 1989, grossing more than $93 million worldwide and securing Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.

Rob Reiner was introduced to Michele Singer Reiner while making When Harry Met Sally. The pair were brought together by Barry Sonnenfeld, a director and friend.

Reiner’s celebrated filmography also included classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were husband and wife for over three decades.
