Iran Reports Strike on US Base in Bahrain, During Widespread Counterattacks.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed missile attacks throughout the Middle East in response for a significant and ongoing assault targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area near the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any impact is unclear and the American officials has yet to issue a statement.
Regional Interceptions
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - all home to American military installations - reported they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their territorial skies.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was striking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on the Islamic Republic carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted locations linked to the Iranian leadership, with President Trump calling on the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.
Regional Fallout
In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military said it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems responded to the projectiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a number of missiles," the statement continued.
Officials reported debris fell on a residential area in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some structural damage and the death of one civilian.
The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
