England Coach Tim Southee Unsure on Ashes Availability
Tim Southee's last Test for New Zealand was against the English side in December 2024.
England's bowling consultant Tim Southee is still working through what his involvement will be at the forthcoming Ashes series in the host nation.
The former Kiwi seamer is expected to be present for the first Test because of his participation in the International League T20 tournament, which begins on December 2 in the UAE.
Southee, 36, assumed a role as the English team's pace bowling advisor in the summer after taking 391 scalps in 107 Tests for the Kiwis.
Speaking as England's team for the first of three Twenty20 games against New Zealand was announced, Southee said of his availability: "We're still working through the situation at the moment.
"We will determine the outcome over the coming days."
English pace icon Stuart Broad had stated the Australian team as their "weakest squad since 2010", but Southee was in no uncertainty over the anticipated challenge during the series, which begins on 21 November.
"I don't think there's at any time a bad Australian cricket team," Southee remarked.
"The team's attention is squarely on our own objectives. I think the quality of [England's] side that's going out to the host country is excellent.
"It should be an thrilling encounter, that series. Not only [are|do] English and Australian people eagerly anticipate it, I think the whole cricket world is."
But, before the English team travel to the city of Perth for the first Ashes match, they take on the Kiwis in Christchurch on this Saturday.
