Wythenshawe Vets Over 35s are based in southern Manchester and compete in the Cheshire Veterans League Premier Tier.

The lineup this season boasts nine former Premier League footballers, with a total over 1,800 elite games.

The high-profile squad also contains 222 Premier League goals and 325 global caps.

They include Papiss Cisse, who netted 37 scores in over 100 games for his former club after signing for them for £9m from Bundesliga side Freiburg in January 2012.

Well-Known Names and Global Players

Stephen Ireland began playing for the team in pre-season this summer through good mate and present Wythenshawe teammate Blake Norton, and the former Republic of Ireland midfielder then invited other ex-pros, who all compete in a midweek small-sided game, to join in.

Former Senegalese forward Niasse, who netted twelve goals in sixty-five top-flight matches for the Toffees and even now goes to their matches at Goodison Park, also had his first appearance against Collegiate OB - who are located in the city and wear an Blue training kit as their strip.

"That's a bit different but then, I love running and just move inside - I'm not defending that much," he said.

"I tell my defender 'I'm not staying' and that I'm just going to keep attacking.

"That movement is what I'm looking for. It's good fun."

Along with the forward's 6 scores on his first game, Ireland has scored 8 in three appearances for the side, while Boyd scored five on his first appearance and Lescott, a defender by trade, scored a hat-trick in one game as a striker.

Wythenshawe are top of the Top Division with 3 wins from three and a goal difference of +19.

Paul Barrow, 38, who plays on the wing for Collegiate OB, faced former Wigan full-back Maynor Figueroa on Sunday - and had to tell his young boy who Heskey was.

He has played at 2 global tournaments for Honduras, in addition to featuring in over two hundred Premier League matches.

"The news was going round like a rumor they had all these former top-flight players," remarked Barrow.

"I felt I was a bit awestruck playing against him to be honest.

"Even Heskey came on and he's got over 60 England appearances.

"Our side held our own for a good twenty mins but then we had a player dismissed and it was tough.

"We really haven't ceased talking about it - I was calling my mother and sibling on the way home.

"The opponents were all friendly, shaking our hands after the match - it was like playing a bunch of regular fellas.

"Now we are eager for the return fixture."
