Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary style architect behind many legendary styles worn by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.

Price was best known for his architectural shapes and performative fashion, including the pastel suits that appeared in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's seminal music video for "the song Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."

This news arrives less than a month after he debuted his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. The performer Lily Allen modelled a dress inspired by the notorious black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" historically worn by Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London at the start of the 1960s to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he began designing clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the bridal gown Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A frequent collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price designed the memorable jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to blend menswear and womenswear along with his expert craftsmanship in shaping sculptural silhouettes established him as a "one-of-a-kind talent," according to the UK's fashion authority.

In the 1990s, he began working on ensembles for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, such as a number of outfits for her American tour after assuming the title.

With a vocation that covered more than five decades, Price presented his final runway show in London recently in conjunction with the label 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Theatrical Flair: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

Design circles laments the passing to a authentic original whose legacy on fashion and music remains indelibly etched.
